Smile Excited to be back. 1990 jeep XJ 2d

Well I'm back. I had to sell my 1992 due to divorce. I just bought a 1990 2door 5 speed electric windows for a toy/fixer. Runs good but electric fan isn't working and I would like to replace the electric widow equipped doors with manual since the drivers side won't roll up.

I am also watch CL to buy a 4 Door model for my young wife for a family car. We married almost 3 years ago she is from the Philippines and never driven before. Thought the 4 door Cherokee would be a good 1st car. She is a lot younger than I

Just thought I would reinterduce my self

Any ideas on the 2 door conversion? I found out the other day that the 2 door doors are 9" longer and I was bummed since my brother had set set from a 4 door he was going to give me

Also is it a hard conversion to put in a 4.0 ho out of a 91 or newer?

Are there any 91 or newer 4.0 ho I should stay a way from?

Thanks again
Bob

I think there are plenty of 4 doors around. Much less work than converting from a 2 door especially for parts etc afterward. Just my $.02.

Do you mean the electric to manual conversion? Just buy the manual parts and install them. The doors are the same whether it's electric or manual. Or better yet, just replace the electric parts. It's an easy job, really. Plenty of videos on Youtube.

If you mean converting a 2 door to a 4 door... just no. Theoretically possible, but you would basically be cutting apart a couple of cars and welding the parts together. Dumb in all caps.

2000 & 2001 have a flaw in the head casting that makes them a bit prone to cracking. They also have coil packs instead of distributors, which is either a plus or a minus, depending on your point of view.

As for inter-year compatibility, see the sticky.

First of all thanks for the advice. I will dig in and trouble shoot the electrical for the windows. Just thought manual would be a better way to go.

I would never try to convert a 2 door vehicle to a 4 door. You are right that would be DUMB in all caps.

I will look for a pre 2000 4.0 HO or maybe just do a few mods to my 90 4.0 .

Thanks again

I also checked out your tech photos looks great. I saw the port match to the ho head to renix wouldn't it be better to use the ho intake also?

Nah.

HO myth buster

Renix in 90 made 182 HP. HO in 91 made 190 HP. That's 8 HP difference.

HO only made more HP than Renix at higher RPMs and not a bit more torque. HO had a 58 mm throttle body versus a 52 mm throttle body on a Renix. That’s 20% more air available through the HO throttle body. The HO also had a better design header. See where I'm going with this?

It’s only a 4% horsepower increase…..

The whole 8HP was not mostly from the head, but from the bigger TB and better exhaust manifold.

Put a 60mm TB from www.strokedjeep.com on your present manifold using the Renix head, eliminate the "crush" in your headpipe with proper re-routing, and go for it.

HO stands for Highly Overrated.
