No idea, not mine. There are bolts going through the coil pack already to hold it onto the head.

Piston Rattle is a new one on me. What is happening that makes you think your engine is no good?

X2 Not all 0331 heads in 2000 & 2001 crack. Chrysler used multiple sand molds to cast these heads but I don't think it was ever pinned down to a certain mold. The move to the Brazilian "tuppy" head was a cost cutting measure. The tuppy specs and design were still Chrysler's. It was cheaper to sub-contract than it was to re-tool.

Or he could just get a 99 head and not have to worry again.

The piston rattle or piston slap has nothing to do the the 0331 head. If im gonna get something new i just wanna avoid that head. From what i know its the piston becoming loose in the cylinder and rattling and some of our xjs live long happy lives with it, some dont. Mine seems to be getting worse quickly so i want to prepare if i can

Run a little heavier weight oil. 15-40 Rotella works well and will reduce the slap and slow the progression.

As for the engine you want:
a 2000-2001 with a tupy head.
a 2000-2001 with an 0331 head and plan on replacing it with one from alabama cylinder head
an older 4.0 and change the ignition system to the coil pack ignition

Im currently searching around for a tupy 0331 headed block and ive also added restore as per multiple suggestions. Im only 500 miles into my current oil (10-40) so an oil change is not soon but i may just swap it to see what happens

Especially for an engine that was already scheduled for retirement.
TUPY is still building for Chrysler, they'll be supplying blocks and heads for the '14 V6 Diesel.

If you have a portion of the piston skirt break off due to piston slap there's a chance the rod will break loose from the piston and go through the side of the block. This has happened on 4.0 motors before.

Say goodnight Gracie.
