and from what im seeing, it doesn't sound like your cat. anything over 45 mph you should hit OD gear and be running at much less rmps...less exhaust. If it chokes out when shifting at high rpm it could be a cat issue.

Just took it for a spin around the block, got up to 35 and it started sputtering then died. when trying to crank it, it sounded horrible..clanks, and clunks, hard to crank..after 3 or 4 tries it cranked...drove back to the driveway and parked it...
I'm no mechanic, but it feels like it could be a fuel problem...
Suppose instead of guessing, I could just wait to see what code it is throwing...LOL
Thanks for the help...

The theory for troubleshooting a problem where a check engine light is present is ALWAYS the same.
Pull the stored codes.
Use the technology provided to you by your Jeep. OBD isn't perfect, but it will you lead you in the right direction almost always.
Post the EXACT codes here for comment.

The OP has a 1999. The key-on, key-off technique that works on older models will NOT work on a 99. All you will get is a "self-test" of the cluster, which many mistake for looking for codes.
For a 99, you will need either a scantool or a code reader.

I know Autozone will do it for free, but I don't wanna drive that far to get it...The son can take it to school tomorrow, way closer, and read the code in class.. I'll post what he text me...
