Hey guys. Took my 88 xj out on her maiden voyage. Was running fine. Had to stop for a tire issue. And when I cranked back up she was running funny. If I got on the throttle she would bogg down, and when I release she would high rev then die.If I didn't touch the throttle, then she would just high rev and die. If y'all could help me out with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

 

Well I changed the fuel filter and pump and she would turn on but still would bogg down if you touched the accelerator. So I replaced the IAC and now she cranks and runs for 30 seconds and dies every time. If u unplug the IAC it will high rev, drop a little. Then run all day. Help please.

 

Sounds to me like the Throttle Position Sensor has taken a dive. Among other things the computer uses the TPS to know how to set the IAC.

There are many posts on here about cleaning, replacing, and adjusting the TPS. Hopefully this gets you pointed in the right direction!
