I'm not completely sure if this goes here, but I'm looking for a little engine help. my Cherokee is coming along but at some point in the furore it's going to need a new or slightly new engine.what I'm wondering is well I came across a Jeep 4.2 long block engine.and I'm wondering if this would swap into a Cherokee. I'm hoping to go for a more powerful engine but I don't want to go much bigger.so would that engine fit in a Cherokee and if not what are some engines that would swap into a Cherokee without having to swap everything out along with it...any info is greatly associated.

 

I believe it will fit but its a down grade power wise. My suggestion it build a 4.6 low buck low compression stroker with the 4.2 crank and piston rods. I plan on doing this to mine. If you want I have build specs for it I can post for you.

 

thanks for the info I just saw it and thought it my be a tiny improvement.but thanks for the info and that does sounds like a good idea.I'm not very familiar with engines but that would be great.

 

no problem man and from what I have read the 4.6 low buck low compression stroker does really well it has alotta torque and supposedly you can run regular 87 gas thru it and get a bit better mpgs. This is the route I plan to go mainly because it puts out like 315+ torque and I think some where around 285 or so horsepower (dont remember the exact numbers) but all in all a pretty good upgrade for the XJ.

 

sweetness ya it does sounds like it would be a good improvement so is it just a modified inline six? I'm not to good with crunching numbers when it comes to power levels...never looked into it before...but that's sounds like a pretty good improvement.especially on a lifted or modified Jeep.

 

Try the Modified Tech section and look for strokers. Covered a lot, tons of info. Ain't nothing OEM about an engine swap.

 

Also check the xj write up section I believe it pg8 theres a write up with all the stroker built data on there
