Hi all, I just found a really good deal on a 4.0 out of a 97 TJ and I was wondering if all the wiring harness and computers would be compatible with my 98 XJ.

Also, to those that have swapped the engine in their XJ's; how difficult is it? I've done an engine swap, but that was in a honda and those are pretty simple.

Finally, are there any things I should watch out for when buying an engine for a swap?

Thanks again for all your help.

Not sure if they will work, but here are some attempted pictures:

ok, thanks for the help everyone.

One more thing though; I found a 4.0 HO as well, how different from the normal 4.0? Would I be able to hook everything up with the normal 4.0 wiring harness or would I need the wiring harness from the HO?

Any 4.0 from an XJ from 1991 till 2001 was an HO. The only differences are the 1991-1996 4.0 was OBD1, 1997-2001 was OBD2, and then I think 2000-2001 also have the coil on plug system instead of a distributor. So basically, you'll need to know what year is coming out and going in to determine how much stuff will need to be swapped.
