Engine swap
Gday mates.. 😀
Greetings from Australia. This might be a rooky question but I have a 1997 xj petrol with a cooked motor. I can get a good motor from a 95 for a good price.
Are they a straight swap or would I need to chenge things over? I think the 95 has a dizzy setup and the 97 has coils.
Thanks
Stan

They both have a distributor but the ps mount/tensioner is different than the 95. You can just take your 97 intake and bolt it to the 95 engine or change over the brackets in front and keep the 95 intake. The fuel rail is different on the 95 it has an external pressure regulator where the 97 has the regulator in the pump so there is no return on the 97 rail but the rails are not interchangeable. The injectors might not be compatible between the 2 because of connector design and operating pressure differences..best bet is to just unbolt the rail and injectors from your 97 and install on the 95
