I'll try and keep this brief. I'm replacing the engine in my ex-wife's 1995 Cherokee. Found a used engine with 60K miles on it at a local auto-recyclers and I popped it open as soon as I got it and everything looked great. I was scrubbing off some grime today and i did a double-take. That bolt hole doesn't look right.... sigh(not what I said). Compared it to the old block (passenger side engine mount) still in the vehicle and yeah doesn't look good at all. Is there any miracle way to come back from this or am I out $600? Of course they would guarantee it for 30 days but it's been longer than that already..

 

There are aftermarket mount brackets that use additional holes present on the side of the engine, perhaps find those and use them? Brown Dog Offroad leaps to mind for some reason...

I compared it with the old block and it's missing about 1/4" off of that boss. There aren't many threads left. Three bolts instead of two? I'm calling Brown Dog today to see what they recommend. From what I see on the website I'm not excited about another $234 or $139 for just one but I guess we gotta do what we gotta do. I'm going ahead with it either way. This has to be her daily driver by Monday come hell or high water. No wheeling in it's near future so I'm not too worried about it. I will report back with Brown Dogs recommendation.

 

You can probably run in a stud - but welding cast to wrought is a pain. Braze the stud in instead.

Besides, most studs are galvanised, and you'll have to burn the zinc off before you can weld it. Not necessary when brazing.

It's in. Great piece of engineering. I did have to clearance my coil bracket by cutting some off and re-drilling the mounting holes for it but no big deal. Now I have to remember where all these wires go. Intake/exaust manifolds and start her up tomorrow. Thanks for the tip for Brown Dog. It's what kept this project going.

FYI - We wish you'd have called while you were installing this. There were a very few coil packs and coil brackets installed backwards (we believe at the factory). While you did an excellent job of modifying your coil bracket, we could have saved you the work. The easy solution (installing the pack on the other side of the coil bracket, then flipping the coil bracket) is not intuitive. For this reason, we are addressing this in our installation instructions. We design all our products for installation with no modifications.
