Don't spend another dime on this Jeep until you find out exactly what is causing the noise.

A fresh oil change at this point would be a waste of time and money.

 

It's been a while, but finally with the holiday I had some time to work on the jeep. Pulled the valve cover off and everything looks fine.... So left to believe it's a rod or bearing. I decided I should pull the oil pan off and while draining the oil a decent amount of silver flakes were in the oil. At this point is it worth it to pull the pan off and check the rods and bearings? Also how difficult are those to replace? Would it just be worth it to try to find a used engine and drop that in instead?

 

If the rod and main bearings are badly worn, the cam bearings are probably shot.

Sounds so much like a engine running with one spark plug removed however knowing it is not that of course have you considered similar air type sounds like leaky exhaust manifold gasket? Probe around with a engine stethoscope.

 

I have noisey valves and they don't sound anything like that. There is something wrong I was hoping it was something simple.
