engine loses power while driving
Just bought a 98 xj, it has terrible electrical problems, no speedometer / tach / radio lights - doesnt start some times with key, somebody rigged a push button directly to the starter that will start it when that happens - sunroof doesnt work, widows only work with the drivers buttons. any help on those would be great im going to check the other fuse box today......
but the only thing i really care about is every time you start it up, even if its warm like 500 feet down the road it will lose power, get power, lose power for about 30 secs, then it is good for the rest of the drive. I dont think its a motor or trans problem, any ideas to what it could be would be awesome, im not good with fuel injected vehicles, is there some kind of choke? im thinking its something electrical since it has the problems above. any ideas would be great.
thanks - jonathan
edit: if anyone could help me find the fuse digram for the passenger side box , that would be awesome, i dont have a manual.

I would recommend buying the CHILTON guide for your XJ, sounds like you have A LOT of things to fix on that puppy... Good Luck!

yea im ordering a repair manual off ebay. but no the motor runs really good other than what i said before, always starts with key or button haha, even in this below freezing weather.
i was thinking it could be a fuel pump? but it seems like it has a pattern to it so that rules that out. i really dont know tomorrow when its daylight here im going to pull the fuses and check em ill post back.
oh yea and thanks for the welcome, so far i really like this website!

pretty much. it hauls *** and doesnt act up. but today i think i noticed something else about it, if you barely mash the gas when it is happening it will go. but if you mash it any harder than your foot resting on it , it acts up. Im just going to take it to the repair shop while its there ill get the guy to put my new tires on.
