it wasnt somking when it died. Thats the funny thing. The coolant reservoir wasnt even really bubbling that much. When the problem first happened it was white smoke. Yeah, we seem to not want to spend more than 3000 dollars on cars and it usually gets us in trouble. He bought a jeep just for mudding and destroyed it in like 3 months. It was only like 1000 bucks to start with

Guess you need to wait and see what they say. Overheating, but not boiling?

"Hey Guys, My jeep overheated on the trail" ....

Sounds odd. So the gauge went high, it just stopped, but was not boiling.
You might be fine, something else completely, maybe it just got hot because there is no shroud, or the rad, and something else quit, like the coil.

Maybe the coolant was not circulating at all!

White smoke could be a chevy with a bad vacuum modulator on the trans.
Blueish white smoke is oil.
Steam is white but dissipates really fast.

Where you being tailed by a chevy?

prob. just steam then. It didnt stay for long. No. The first time it overheated it was boiling and smoking. It didnt die on the trail. It kept running. It died when i tried to drive it to the shop. Yeah man, hopefully i will get a call tonight. I just dont know what to do cause i have like no experience with this haha. But yeah he was supposed to look at it today, and tell me if it was cracked or just warped or whatever. Said the only thing he has seen hurt the 4.0s was running hot, never had any knocking, or never seen any with a rod sticking out of the side or anything like that.

10-4. I'd rather Fix Or Repair Daily, but the 350 it's self isn't a bad piece of work.

Octavious, I hope it didn't boil completely dry! (that would "do" it!)

Well if you need to do a headgasket job $1000 really isnt that bad (around here anyways) considering the labor and machine work if necessary.

Its just the decals/badges. The 89 never came with an HO. Infact I have a 2.5 badge on mines even though it isnt. I just thought it was funny. LOL.

1000 isn't that bad to pay a shop to do it... but I can do it at home on a saturday if I start early, and be done by the time I go to bed for under 200 bucks.

Depends. After market ones have the bung in the rad. Only thing to change is the heater switch valve
