Engine cross referencing
Thought I'd post a pick of the MJ I just picked up on craigslist. Now on to my question. Is there any cross-reference table that will tell me what 4.0 blocks will go in what year cherokees if you swap ?Also what year heads are compatable with the blocks. I just picked up a '98 cherokee 2 wheel dr. from my neighbor. Head is cracked, block has holes in three pistons. I have a very rebuildable 1993 4.0 from my old sport. Can it work in this? Also if I replaced pistons in the '98 block would the '93 head work with it? Thanks.

Why not just use the block from the 93 also. If im not mistaken the 93 has a 7120 head. I would just use the block and head from the 93 and put all your 98 stuff on it. I know in like 91 they changed the block a little and made a new spot for the coil to mount and I think the knock sensor. but I would stripp both motors to long blocks and put the 93 in your 98

Well I have a 88 block and head in my 91. I know its backwards but it was free. lol I took the 88 stripped it down and put all my 91 stuff on it. there for the CPS and every sensor was the same. I just used the head and block. Also called long block. So your computer will all be the same.

O but if you use the 93 motor make sure you use the 98 flexplate or your CPS will be screwed up. but just put all your 98 parts on the 93 londblock and put it in the 98 and your good.
Thanks, The machinist came over and examined the '93 engine today. Just so happened he needed some rocker bridges to finish a project. As long as he was coming over and all I took advantage of the situation to have him examine the '93 block. Verdict..... hone, ring, bearing etc. but said he would need to see the crank to be sure if it needed to be turned or not. Would really really love it if this works out as the '93 was our first jeep and it would be great to use the engine in something else. Thanks again for your help. See you on the forum!!
