Unhappy Loose Wire near Oil Filter..can't figure out where it goes. HELP!

My 2001 XJ Jeep is running really rough and I found a ground wire that came off the block. It is located on the passenger side of the block by the oil filter..I see a hole on the block near the ignition rail..is that where this goes? A picture would really help me..THANKS!!!

Anywhere on the block that is cleaned off real well and where the ground is attached securely will work fine.

Hmmm. Get rid of that Fram filter ASAP. F*R*A*M= Forever Ruining Automotive Motors. Seriously.

Yeah I've heard that, and I plan on switching on the next upcoming oil change. So I am not sure if that piece is a engine block ground.. I am not sure what it is or where it goes..I need someone to post a picture of where thiers goes. I hope this fixes my problem.

Hopefully someone will soon. I'm an old Renix guy and not familiar with your exact wiring subleties. Say no to Fram sooner than later, even if you just swap filters now beore the next oil change.

If that's bare wire braid, it's a ground strap. If it's insulated cabling with a plastic connector I'm not so sure. Where does the other end of the wire go?

It goes on a stud on the block right next to the oil stick. You probably lost the nut. There is an empty hole you can use also. Just look for an unused stud on the block. Clean it good before you put it back on.

Default I'll try that

It splits off of another wire bigger wire. Could someone take a picture of where theirs is, or if you know of where one is on the web. I just want to be 100% of the exact placement. Is this the reason my Jeep all of a sudden runs rough? Thanks guys, I reall appriciate it!

I just hooked all that stuff back up on my 2000 not too long ago, I will take a photo when I get home and put it up for you. That kind of looks like the eyelet that attaches to the back of the alternator with that little tab on it, but I could be mistaken.

Default Awesome

Thank you, I appriciate it! I have the dreaded cylinder 3 misfire code coming up and I have tried everything. I can clear the code and it runs fine for maybe 20 miles and the engine light comes on, and when it is blinking it really runs crappy. If I accelerate hard it reaches 3000rpm and really bucks around. I am hoping it is this ground wire deal. Ive replace the injectors, the ignition rail, plugs, boots.. It is really frustrating.. I have heard of this "Heat Soak" deal.. but I have not heard of anyone curing it.. I had a mechanic say it could be the ECU?

This is the same bolt stud that holds the oil level check tube in place.

These other two are toward the front near the alternator.

I believe that's all I have on the passengers side of the engine. Hope this helps.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the pictures! I took the Jeep into my mechanic buddy to figure out the misfire cylinder 3 problem today. I hope it is something small that was obvious.
