Renots

So I've been shooting a code pointing at my CPM/CKS. I've replaced both with Mopar sensors and 98% of the issue has resolved. Once in a blue moon if I hit the gas hard and let up the jeep's engine cuts out still, but it's only occurred twice in last month.
I'm assuming it's a twisted or dying wire. Tonight I'm going home and going to start checking all my wiring.
My question. Is there an area on these XJs that's prone to wire failure? Just to get a starting point. Also, once I cut off the wire shields, what should I cover them back up with. I was thinking to carefully cut the shield off and then electrical tape it back, but the plastic is pretty brittle.
