Default Electrical problems

Well just got my 89 Cherokee Laredo clutch and trans in now and the radio, clock, and turn signals quit working.
The bulbs are also good.
I checked the fuses and they are good.
Any one know what's going on?
Thanks!-jretzky

Default Electrical problems

I guess I need to buy a electrical test light.
There are some 30a 12v fuses that I cleaned and the power-comfort for the trans and the rear defogger is now working.
They never did work before.
Is there any other fuses some where that run several fuses in the fuse box...like under the hood?

Does the radio, turn signals, and clock have another larger fuse some where?

Thanks!-John

there should be a fuse box under the hood, somewhere near the battery.. the layout is printed on the underside of the lid.

Default Electrical problems

Thanks for all the replies.
It appears that I may have found the problem.
There is a loose plug that I found under the dash on the drivers side.
The plug in has one wire that is blue with a yellow stripe and the other wire is black (probably a ground).
Could any one with a 89 Laredo tell me where it plugs in?
Thank you!-John

There is no power to the turn signals and the bulbs are good and the emergency flashers work.

Also there is no power to the radio and the clock.

The town of Ashland, Mt. Is very small and I don't own many tools any more due to the Ash Creek Wild Fire that took out my whole place last year.

Couldn't find a test light yesterday, but will try and borrow one today.

The blower motor is working!

My son took a part some stuff under the dash because the speedometer is not working right either...the needle jumps all over the place when driving.
Maybe someone knows what's wrong with that?
He could of disconnected something to cause all the electrical problems and not hooked it back up.

I did replace some of the old fuses and like I said the trans (power/comfort) is now working. Also the delay on the head lights and the rear defogger are working now, but it didn't change anything with the radio, clock, or turn signals.

I will barrow a test light today and check for power at the fuse box.
When I got the 89 Laredo most of the clips that hold in the fuses were broken and I had to replace them...big project, but then again the muffler was on backwards. It appears all this Jeep needed was some T. L. C.

Thanks!-John

Please help!~been busy at work, but now back to working on the 89 Laredo.
Well I bought a test light and a one with a battery to check continuity (spelling).
I have got my turn signals working (it was the flasher in the fuse box).
There is power in at the fuse for the clock...still the clock isn't working.
With my repair manual I can figure out which fuse is for the dash lights.
Is it the instrument one? Also I have power at the radio fuse and no radio.
Should I run a hot wire to the radio to solve that problem?
Checked all fuses and the big metal one (30amps) all good and appears to have power at the fuse box. There is something unplugged I bet. My son was messing with things under the dash.
Also what is wrong with the speedometer if it is all over the place when driving?
Thanks!~John
PS. Freegdr you out there?

Continuity is spelled correctly.
Good find on the flasher.
Power on both sides of the fuse for the clock in the fusebox?

Thanks!~Cruiser54 and Freegdr for your help.
Got all the electrical problems solved.
Most of the problem was fuses...old fuses.
I believe at this point that the heavy red wire on the passenger side (under the hood) was the reason for no clock or radio.
Cut off an connection and soldered it together.

I think that the more time I spend on this project the better it has been getting.
Makes me wonder who owned this car. Everything seems to be tampered with.
I got the car for free cause the lady taking it down to Florida gave up on it and asked me to drive her to the bus. Well I have about $2,000 into it now. The junk yard here has about 4 of them.
Might rebuild an 4.0 engine in one and put it in the Cherokee next spring.

Thanks!~Again, John

Cruiser54, you know your electrical stuff.
I did click on the pink address.
I have been cleaning up the Jeep since I got it also.
I always believed in keeping under the hood juast as nice.
Can't stand working on a dirty engine or compartment.
Why I even understand removing the dirt and oil from everything makes the engine run cooler and we all know what happens if you don't keep the terminals and top of the battery clean.

Did Jeep put a white grease on all electrical connections?
Every one I ever took a part on my Jeep has white grease in it.
And of coarse dirt sticks great to grease.

I plan on cleaning up the engine compartment and that includes all wiring harnesses and connection. I didn't forget the grounds.
My old supervisor at the garage use to call them redondant grounds.
And I'm sure I spelled that one wrong.

Pretty Cool!~John
Thanks!~Cruise54.
By the way, I'm still a gear head at 55.
My other truck is a 1967 Dodge P.U. red and black/
D200 rebuilt and turned into a 4x4.
Look on sweptline.org for johns67.
My truck made their calander a couple years ago in Dec.
