I thought OP said lost horn also must of misread it.but if a bunch of kids have hacked it I'm sure it won't be that.just have to go thru each scheme and check voltage, or disconnect battery and ohm it all out.my old 67 c10 wiring was all hacked up when I got it and that wad a nightmare so I understand your frustration. ended up finding an old extension cord cut up and used for my tail light circuit lol

iv gone through all the stereo wires five or six times its a mess but no signs of crossed wires or touching wires. would my ignition switch really cause so much to stop working?

Yes it would. I thought the same thing but when I dropped column saw the switch had a burnt spot and one of the plug terminals had melted thru then I knew I found it.
Mine was keeping me from going into the accessory position also from being melted internally I'm guessing.
But takes ten min to drop column and check it so its worth a shot

Yes sir it ran fine, well as good as a renix can run lol.except for no horn, radio, turn signals, cig lighter, AC/heat, wipers.
I always wondered why they would run so much thru one switch too, not very smart on there part.but then again at that time every auto maker had it own weird thing with it

Your ignition switch is definitely your issue. I had a 88 and I was driving to Sacramento from AZ and around LA all the same stuff went out...lighter, wipers, radio, heater, so on. It was my ignition switch. Had it replaced and all worked fine. Do you have auxiliary lights and additional electronics?

It's not definitely your problem but it's definitely a candidate. Given the history of your XJ, it could be so many things but the ignition switch is a good possibility and a simple place to start. Good call, Taro2413.

I was leaning toward the switch myself. (and/or the connector). I guess it hot's up both a yellow and an orange when it's on. Unfortunately I haven't nailed down exactly where are goodn' easy places to check for voltage. Well shoot. Now I'm not so sure on that yellow.

OK, pretty sure it's a brown and an orange that does most of the work from the IGN switch.

EDIT...I deleted stuff on yellow wires...

You might get up under there and jab a pin in the orange from the switch? Idk...anyway it's on-top of the column down there above the pedals.

In this diagram you can press/hold "ctrl", than press "+" to zoom in.
Might make sure you are looking at 4.0, (n0t 2.5)

Cruisers c-101 and a bunch more is in a link in my signature. Meanwhile, I should nail that down! (seeing if it is indeed "ON").

If you go to a jy you can just cut then off then splice em in to your harness. What I did was pull each terminal out of connectors clean em up and grease them and insert them into jy connectors. either one is fine to.don't know parts stores number.can prob get from dealer tho

See what others say, but I have doubts. Cruiser54 might show up at around 5AM (Pac) time. You might PM him.
