Even when an automatic choke works perfect, it's not as good as a manual with someone who understands how to use it. They got letric heaters, even coolant hoses going through there, some with solenoids to bump it open some. All kinds of goofy stuff since it will generally choke too much. I'll often just wire it open, and just use the acc pump to get her going. If I can squirt fuel in there with my foot, I'm OK with that.

It might take a little doing, but once you have a manual installed you should be fine. I'm not sure...older carbs have a stepped idle speed cam where the idle stop screw lands. The choke moves that cam. Since these, (or at least mine) has an IAC (Idle Air Control), there may not be a cam for the idle stop.
