1988 xj - new to me- My electric fan does not come on unless the air conditioner is on, is it set that way? It seems to me it should come on when the temp gets too high without the air con on as well. I have tested by bypassing the temp switch on the block with a jumper wire but the fan still won't come on unless the air con is on.
I was thinking about putting a switch and reley on it and if my temp got too high then I'd hit the switch. Pretty easy set up just thought the fan should work without the air on.
I don't have any overheating issues now but this summer I will be hitting some hotter states and may need the electric fan then.

fan is controled by computer. 217 is when it kicks on. if the ac is kick it on i bet everything is fine your just not hitting 217 which is a good thing

But when I jump across the switch wires on the block should'ent the fan come on?

try a 12v and a ground right to the fan. or just try to get it up to 217. you can turn it on with your deforst also
