My electric fan was connected by the previous owner in a way that made it run continuously. I've got it sorted out by a mechanic so that now it runs along with the ac or if the engine overheats. From what I've read in this forum the electric fan should kick in at around 220* w/o the ac, but mine starts running just about 185* w/o the ac. Is that normal? I normally run between 180*-210* (just under 210* tbh).
The previous owner also mounted a pusher fan in front of the ac condenser which is connected with the aux fan. So now they both run together and whenever the temp goes down they stop. Don't know if this is relevant just wanted to point this out.
Are you going off of the dash gauge? Get an IR Heat gun and shoot the thermostat housing with it to see what's going on. And on an 00 it shouldn't run with the AC like with older models. The later models strictly temp controlled.
I'll try and get a hold of an IR heat gun and get a reading from the thermostat housing. Thanks for pointing out the fact that the fan should not run with the ac. What would be most likely causing the fan to kick in early if the reading from the thermostat housing is also around 185*?
A bad coolant temp sensor would be my first guess, it controls fan engagement. You can check it at various temperatures with a multi-meter using the below chart.
