Default Electric fan , help

Been having issues with my electric fan on my 89 xj, it doesnt wanna turn on at times. Before whenever i would use my ac the fan would turn on but now it doesnt or when it does turn on it turns off right away, i tested the fan and it does work. Was hoping somebody could help, maybe somebody knows where the switch is. Any help is much appreciated

The fan turns on based on the CTS reading @ 190F or when the AC/Defroster is on. Test the CTS to make sure it is functioning and go from there.

Use this link to test:

Most people just wire a switch into the cab to alleviate E-fan issues.

Too easy and you can control when its on and off.

Does the electric fan speed vary or it a single, ive noticed that on other cars the speed increases as the temp increases just asking because i think i will install a switch.

The ac works great, but the electric fans turns on sometimes and then it doesnt, not reliable at all. That relay controls the electric fan

Just run a power wire to a switch and call it a day. Having it on a switch like stated before will allow you to turn it on when needed. I tapped into the existing wires but left it plugged into the harness. This allowed it to function normally plus i could turn it on manually. Hit the woods and i would turn it on!

Fan speed is constant from what I can tell. No fancy variable speed here. Did you test the CTS? You can install the switch for the fan but if the root of the problem is the CTS then you have more problems than the fan. Better safe than sorry...

I believe if you tap into the two wires going into the temp sensor in the radiatior (drivers side, above lower coolant hose). Get a two prong switch (spst) and run wires from the taps and connect one wire to a pole on the switch and the other wire to the other pole. When you flip the switch to on, it should complete the ground allowing the fan to come on.
I belive this will work, but I haven't actually tried it yet. I'm just assuming that could work.

Edit: from further looking at the diagram posted above, I believe when the temp sensor closes at 190* it completes the circuit allowing power to pass down the wires tripping the relay and turning the fan on. My mod should still work with a decent switch regardless.
