My doors will only unlock with any of the selectors. doesn't matter what one I try. Any ideas on what to try?

 

Being that different year Cherokees had different locking systems and you didn't include the year in your post or fill out your profile, it's hard to answer your question.

Yes, someone please this is very annoying to have to go around and lock all the doors with the key

 

I would start by checking the main switch controls in the drivers door and fallow the wire harness that goes out the door jamb in the rubber boot. Check if the wire have burnt through to each other. The do have a bad problem with the wiring breaking in the rubber boot in the door jamb.

I'll give it a look. Would an issue like that cause all the doors to not unlock but still lock?

 

Take the passenger door panel off, take the control module out of the panel and remove the backing. Spray the switches and connectors with CRC electrical connector cleaner, let sit over night, put back together and see if it works.

That is what I did to fix mine on my '00. Locks and unlocks perfectly now.

Make sure you do the PASSENGER door control assembly. It is the one that controls all the door locks, the rest of the door lock switches are just switches.
