Hey y'all. I have an 88 Cherokee with a 4.0L I6 and I'm burning a good bit of oil...more when I'm on the freeway. I obviously need a new head gasket, but the gamble is should I slap a new one on there, or should I just wait and buy a new engine in a little over a month or so. I have no way to plane a block, unless there's an inexpensive tool that I don't know about. Any suggestions? Also, which brand head gasket and RTV sealant should I go with?

I usually just checked the block and head with a long straight edge and the hand sand a little for smoothness. and if you get new engine go with a 97 long block cause is way stronger block and the valve train was made better in 96. and then just use your stock intake and exhaust. i did it with my 94. worked great.
