Efficient must have homemade remote starter tool for us loners
I pretty much have to do everything myself and when it comes to cranking it over you can't be in the cab and under the hood / vehicle at the same time , On a limited budget I can't afford new tools every time I have to fix something,
so I made this when I needed a second hand . All you need is one of those old extension cords we all have them laying around (I have a pile of them) we never use and a light switch a couple of alligator clips. Bails me out all the time .

When I fitted the starter motor to an older classic I own, wired into the loom a momentary switch, as a starter, in the engine bay, rolled up with long wires, along with a wire & switch to dizzy to cut motor, or maybe stop a casual thief
That's what I was figuring. So when the 2 terminals on the starter are connected with the switch, actuating the switch from off to on is all it takes to crank the starter? I guess that makes sense now that I think about it....

The homemade switch provides power (about 1 amp or less at 12v) to the terminal on the starter solenoid. The solenoid is a more heavy-duty switch that when energized closes the circuit between the battery and the starter and allows much more power (about 60-90 amps) to flow from the battery directly to the starter.
I wanna make one tonight just so I can use it and impress people.... Not even tell them about it, just reach over and flip the switch and the jeep cranks over while we are looking under the hood hahahaha......
Funny thing! My 1937 Dodge had a Ford starter solenoid put in by a previous owner and it had a push button on the core to manually engage it. It also was retrofitted with a 54 Dodge electric starter because the original one was a foot pedal!
