Default ECU Upgrade

I came across a video where a guy was taking the ECU from a late model Renix and putting it in an early model one. In the video he stated that you could gain a couple extra horsepower. I was curious if anybody had done this and what the benefits were from it. Did you get extra power or a better start? Or is it even worth doing?
