dumb starter question
i had bought a starter online and it wasn't the same as the one i took out of my 01 it had just a stud not the plug for the negative. it was also about 2 or 3 inches longer. i know that one was out of the older years, so i put it in and all that, and now it only starts sometimes it will click and and will keep clicking till it wants to start 1-7 clicks all the wires are good the relay is good.
is the older starter the same as the newer one? or does it sound like its not the starter itself?

sounds like it could be a connection problem. check to see if your connections are tight and clean.

Sounds like you got a pre 99 starter, look through my write up for a general year difference explanation and maybe to double check your connections.

If all checks out I agree on a faulty solenoid or something, you can always pull it off and bring it to advanced or somewhere for a free bench test...(and as far as starters go its definatly possible to get faulty parts out of the box, or have them go bad fast, I'm on my 3Rd reman'd starter, thanks to a good warranty lol. Not sure what route you went on new or reman but it's possible either way.)
