Dumb newbie questions
Ok ive got a couple questions that i cant find answers for online
-when doing a gear swap are you swapping transmission gears or axle gears? Or both?
-what are some good cars to pull parts from?
-what is the difference between a hack and tap sye and a regular sye?
-after my lift, my steering wheel is upside down and the guy who did the alignment didnt know what to do about it either. Whats up with that?
-im about to try my hand at welding, what would yall recommend i try to weld first?
If i think of other questions ill post them.
Thanks yall

2. For the most part, stick to XJ's for parts to avoid headaches.
3. A hack n tap refers to simply cutting the rear main output shaft, drilling out the center, and attaching a fixed yoke. Whilst an SYE is an already hacked and tapped main shaft that you install, and return the "core" main shaft.
4. Did you install a drop pitman arm?(on the steering box) This helps to correct steering angle after lifting a vehicle.
5. When I learned how to weld, it was on a flat piece of scrap steel.Just grind it down to bare metal, and start laying down welds. Adjusting your welder to the metal is the most important part in ensuring strong penetrated welds.
Hope this helps,

Differential gears. You can change transfer case gearing, but it is less common.

Hack-n-tap= hack off the output shaft of the TC, and tap it for a fixed yoke, REG= taking TC apart and changing the output shaft

This was taken from a post on Jeep forum:
If the steering wheel is upside down just loosen the clamps on the drag link adjusting sleeve and turn the sleeve so that the wheel is centered. If the adjustment can't be made by making the drag link shorter, make it longer. If the idiots at the alignment shop can't figure that out, they may be a new, previously unknown, breed of idiots. Regardless, I wouldn't go back there.
-im about to try my hand at welding, what would yall recommend i try to weld first?
Scrap steel. Lots of scrap steel. Then some more scrap steel. Then after you practice laying down beads, practice in different positions. (horizontal, vertical, overhead) and keep on practicing until you feel comfortable welding in any position. Then try different thicknesses of steel. Don't do ANY structural welding until you feel comfortable enough to do it.
If i think of other questions ill post them.
