Default Drum Brake Help/Suggestions

Drum brake pad replacement time. Drum brakes have always scared me off. All the extra parts and springs. I recently changed my front pads and rotors myself. I do my own oil, I am swapping on a new Converter and exhaust from Iron Rock Off Road, I have replaced my water pump and thermostat so I know I can do it.
Do the guru’s out there have any tips or recommended tools that will make it a much easier job? I do not want to get it apart and have troubles. Also what pads should I use? I have an AutoZone, Napa and O’Reilly’s near me too. I used the AutoZone silver pads and rotors in the front and am not happy. Figured silver was middle ground it would be my best bet in cost and performance. I was wrong L

Thanks

you need to get a brake tool kit. my advice to you is to take ONE side apart first. look at the otherside to see how everything goes together. it may take you a while, but once you learn it yourself, you will never forget. Hope this helps ya out.

Good advice.

I would go with just cheap autozone parts when it come to drum brakes. Spend the money for the good stuff on disk brakes. Get new shoes, hardware kits, and brake adjusters. You may want to get wheel cylenders and drums as well. Retern them if you dont use them. It stinks to get in there and realize you need more parts.

my advice is that you ditch the rear drum brakes cuz there useless, then do a disk swap. i did a ZJ disk in the back and its ridiculous, stops on a dime now

Pull off one wheel. Remove the drum. Measure the opening of the drum. Measure the width of that shoes while you are at it.
