Drum brake help
I picked up a dana 44 out of an 87 that I am going to swap into my 96 but it doesn't have brakes on it. I got shoes, adjusters and most if the hardware from the parts store but was unable to find some of the parking brake parts.
Found this pic from someone having a similar issue. I found the adjuster at the bottom but that is all. Anybody know if the stuff from the d35 I'm removing will work? Or where I can get what I need? Thanks.

AFAIK, you can buy everything new except for the equalizer and the anchor plate.
If the drums, backing plates and shoes are the same size, you should be able to swap parts between them.

I found everything except the equalizer, anchor plate and the parking brake arm. Dont know what the drum size is on the d35 but if it is 10" like the d44, it should work? If they are 9" drums on the d35, probably not?

Call a parts store and see if the brake drums and shoes have the same part numbers between the years.
If so, everything should be compatible.
You might also be able to check on Rockauto.

So why don't you change all the parts you need over to the axle you're going to use? If the Dana 35 backing plate will bolt up to the 44 axle ends, everything else should swap. I hope.

I might be a little late with this but you can upgrade the performance of "Drum" brakes also. Start with the drums you can get those that are lighter and will run cooler than stock. Next are the shoes I used just these for sometime when I didn't want convert to disc's. They are Hawk shoes they aren't really for a daily driver because of the design will ware a little faster and cost. But they work so much better than any over the counter ones its unreal.
Circle Track racer's use them on about all cars in the stock class's. IMHO a good idea I have them on my XJ with the Chry 8.25 that is driven on the street about 50% of the time and they made a lot of difference on it over new stock ones I had on it when changed out.
