Drove without coolant and now no compression... Posible just HG?
My friend drove her zj 20 miles with a blown coolant hose, the engine was knocking bad then wouldn't start after stopped. I put some oil down each cylinder to try and help the rings. You can hear theres no back pressure but I did a compression test anyway and it only pops up to 30...
So my only question really, is it possible its the head gasket? Or the piston rings are fried and its time for another engine.
thanks

I hate to say it but i think your friend had what he had coming to him thinking he could drive with out adding any coolant. Why would anyone in there right mind try to drive any vehicle without any coolant. I hate to say it but I think it is time to buy a new engine!!!

I'm a hopeless optimist, maybe to a fault. If I followed with a wet compression test, and the numbers didn't come up too much, I might reason that a bunch of exhaust valves gave it up. I doubt you will hurt it much by pulling the head, checking the bores for scoring.
Knocking Eh? Pistons can, and do fall apart.
I had a girlfriend melt a Vega engine with 161,000 miles on it over a blown heater hose. (car had 206K)(their 3rd, sleeved design with added cooling passages was a great engine! Too late though.)
