Our 94 did that. Took it to the shop (I don't have a welder) and they used a block of wood and a floor jack to raise the opened door and push the hinge back in place. They welded all three sides/seams (across the front, top and bottom) of the hinge back to the A-pillar and let it sit for a while. Then we released the pressure when all was cooled off and adjusted the striker. Worked like a champ. I let it sit a few days and then hit it with rust converter primer and some glossy paint. It's held for almost 3 years now. Other alternative is to replace the hinge - which I understand is quite a chore.

I dropped mine at the shop on the way to work. Picked it up at lunch. Drove it a few days and then painted it. ("Let it sit" meant the exposed weld - not the Jeep!). I paid them $40 to fix it. That's about an hour body rate. And I know he didn't spend an hour on it - He ain't that hard workin'...

what i noticed with mine is if you open the door all the way the hinge binds on it self before the metal limiting strap stops it i cut like 1/8 off the part of the hinge that hits on it self and have had no problem since

Door Hinge Service Bulletin

Took mine to the local dealer. Bought the hinge repair kit and they installed and re-welded the hinges for free.

Hmmm. Thanks. Now I feel like I wasted $40... But if my 93 xj hinge pulls away, I have a copy of the info to take to my dealer!

I've taken my 96 Cherokee to my local Jeep dealership and they said I need to take it to a body shop. The tech said they don't have a welder. I called up another dealership and they told me they couldn't do it and also to take it to a body shop. I might just go to the junkyard and have them weld it for me. I don't know anyone who has a welder.
