I tried searching and read many threads on driveline clunk but haven't found what I'm looking for.
My 91 makes a clunk towards the rear after coasting and getting on the gas hard. If I ease into the gas it doesn't do it. It doesn't clunk from park to reverse or drive like many describe in the other threads either.
I'm hoping somebody has had the exact problem and fixed it before I start throwing parts at it.

The only way you're gonna find what you're looking for is to GO LOOK!
Under the Jeep that is. Around these parts, we call it "noggin pokin".
That's where you use your God given senses to inspect under YOUR Jeep for stuff that might be loose in the drivetrain.
There's no Silver Bullet cure you're gonna find from a keyboard, mouse and monitor.
And, if you feel you don't have the skills to "noggin poke" then find a shop, friend, or relative who does.

Before suspecting the transfer case or trans, check the straps on the leaf springs, located in front of the rear tires. If these are broken or missing, they slap around and "clunk" when accelerating or decelerating.

Mine started this clunk the other day after a long wheeling trip. The leaf springs are new but I'll get under there tonight and look to see if im missing anything.

I got under it again and looked close at everything and found a bad u joint in the rear driveshift. When I first looked and wiggled it, it didn't move at all. When I looked closer at it one of the caps was broken and all the needle bearings were gone. Lesson learned. All the clunking is gone now.
