Default Drive Shaft Question

Hey guys, I am currently swapping out my Dana 35 for a Chrysler 8.25 in my 96 AW4 I6. I am wondering what driveshaft I need to get. I read somewhere that in 96 the driveshafts and transfer case changed from the previous years. My 8.25 is out of a 93 XJ. I know its not the 29 spline but I got it for pretty cheap.

1. Will any driveshaft out of any AW4 I6 with the 8.25 work?
2. Do I need to find a driveshaft from an older/newer? XJ in order for this to work correctly?

I have been reading multiple different things and have not been able to come up with an answer. Some guys tell me I need to find a driveshaft out of a 96 and earlier, but what I read is that in 96, they updated the T-case to have the rubber boot and its different.

Just looking for some clarification. I appreciate any help.

Thanks

The snout of the 8,25 is about 1" longer, thus your D35 shaft will be about 1" too long.

Insert your DS in the TC and measure back, center to center of the ujoint or C2C yoke to yoke.

Have yours shortened or get a shaft from a XJ with a 8.25

Different output as in the rubber boot? I mainly just need to know whether or not the splines are the same, and if I would be able to put a 97+ driveshaft in it.

The change was in 96. You need a shaft for an 8.25 from a 96+

Now that is some of the best news I've heard all day! Been searching all around on just about every forum I could find and haven't had any luck. I better go snag the only 96+ driveshaft at my local junkyard then.

DS at JYs are hard to come by, most move the cars with fork lifts and ding or destroy the DSs.

Be careful.

Thanks for the heads up, when I was there today unfortunately I experienced that first hand. They had about 7 XJ's but only one had a good DS left.
