Just wondering if you ever did your front timing cover. I was searching the forum for answers to oil leaks from the front. I have the same issue. But wanted to make sure before I start taking pulleys off.

I think I saw a post or two about guys pulling the balancer from underneath without pulling the radiator. Of course you want to clean it well and make sure it's not power-searing fluid, oil from the filter mount or from above.

I'm just about sure its not power steering fluid. The leak is So bad it looked like a water fall of oil

Yeah now that my rear main is fixed I can see the oil pouring from the front. I wiped the pulley clean and it now has streaks on it from slinging oil all over. I just haven't had time to get that pulley off, I guess it's pretty easy. Pull the pulley off, pry out old seal, tap new one on. Haven't found much of a DIY for the procedure. If you tackle it you should post one up!

Those O rings in the filter mount are notorious. They harden, then can't hold the pressure from the pump, then oil goes everywhere.

Guess there is such a thing as a balancer installing tool. I've never used or needed one. I only mention it because I found that my O'Rileys loans tools free. You deposit the value of the new tool, then you can keep it or return it.

(you DO need the puller) btw, "harmonic balancer" for a search.

I have a random puller that I acquired over the years, I don't know if it will work but I'll give it a try before renting. I'll probably replace my balancer at the same time.

Skidder...your Heep may have the same Issue I had when I got it...oil pouring from the front...I pulled the balancer which was curiosly new and no woodruff key on the crank or on the pulley...looking a little closer I find the key wedged in the crack(valley) between the front seal and the pan...clean up the front cover and I found a nice little crecent shape crack about the size of the woodruff key ...anyway long story short no one had the cover available for a couple of days so I got some key removal tool (pliers yanked that bad boy out...put on a new front crank seal and jb welded the crack and to this day it is dry as a bone....so long story short...this may have happend to you being that you mentioned that someone has been into the motor a few time....hope this helps

It's not an interference engine. Won't bend valves. Once had a Fiat got so loose it wore a hole out through the cover. BTW, just a chain at rockauto is $14. Probably a good idea...

Hmm if its that cheep then hell why not. I'm just trying to get this back together for work on Saturday. I took all this apart today to do my gaskets. I hope I can get it all back together. Never done it. But I'm learning.

I do like to buy local...I guess you won't need a gear puller if the crank sprocket is not coming off.
