Default Dreaded 2001 head

Hey guys, I have the original 2001 head on my xj. Knock on wood zero problems at 180k. My question is, how difficult of a job is it replacing? My experience is limited to replacing hoses, fluids, and all of the braking componets. Never tackled anything to do with the engine internals. What year would be the best replacement? Should I buy new online or look for used from a certain year? Thanks for the input, you guys have helped me a lot on wrenching on my turd wagon during my unemployment

Odessa Cylinder Head (known as Clearwater) $455 complete with valves and shipping BOTH ways (core return). I put one on my 2000 WJ. It weighs 85 lbs! about 7 more than stock. You can tell the extra metal is on top because the valve spring pockets are cut deeper.

Warning! This head is drilled for 2 different temp sensors, one in the thermo area and one back by cylinder #5. The rear one comes with a plug in it and mine was painted over but not tight. It started pissing coolant 2 days after the install and I FREAKED!
