Ok so I literally just changed my oil two days ago and did something minorly stupid... (Uh oh). I bought a Wix filter (#51515) and the can had a dent on it. Well I continue to put it on instead of returning it and just now read on this forum that that was a big "no no". Is it possible to drain the oil into a clean container and to pour that oil back into the engine after I changed the filter, or do I have to do a complete oil change? Also, is the Wix filter #51452 a perfect fit for the XJ? I remember the member, Salad, saying something about wheeling and using that filter over the 51515. Thanks in advance.

Yup, I wouldn't re-use unless its a bush only truck like mine and you just don't care, just take old filter off, move fast and get the new one on (little bit of fresh oil on the seal) then top up with new fluid.
I don't use WIX so can't help you much there, what are the differences in the two do you know? If your unsure, just use stock. Sometimes a larger works good on some vehicles, but will drop pressure or not have drain back valves or all sorts of little changes they make, its usually best to stick with stock replacement unless you know what your getting into and have some gauges to monitor if you are not totally sure.

as stated no need to remove oil but just the filter, and I can't see it being a big deal if the dent isn't something substantial..
a better question is... is kaiser hospital still on gage ave?? I was born there..
