Default drag cherokee?...

What would yall say to a drag car(suv) made out of a 2 wheel drive Cherokee... its currently has no windshield and was in a accident... mainly cosmetic damage... well i had the idea of maybe turbo charging the 4.0 and slaming the jeep to the ground with some say 12 inch slicks in the rear.. maybe even a locking rear end. its also an automatic.

just wonder what you all would think and how much work would it be to lower it?

ps i get my 4 door tomorrow hopefully!

There is a jeep running around here that is lowered and turboed. It runs pretty good...i think it was in the low 8s(1/8th) the last time I was at the strip.

I saw a guy with a 2wd Cherokee on Pass Time run like mid 10's....it was nuts. I'm not sure about turbocharging the 4.0L though...that may be tricky.

sure, its possible with time and effort. i personally think lowering an XJ looks ridiculous and it can only drop a few inches anyways before you run into issues with oil pan clearance.

imo, the stock converter AW4 absolutely blows on the dragstrip. i ran a 75 shot through an aw4 and it was a dog at any speed over 40mph.

but, if you want to swap an ax15 or some kind of manual in along with leaving the stock 3.55 gears in the back then you may have something.
i ran a 2wd, 5spd, w/ 3.55's, and a 120shot to mid 13's at 104mph and that was with an open-diff d35 spinning through second.

Theres a guy here on Long Island with a turbo charged YJ wrangler. He did the 4.6 Stroker kit and a big turbo. basically just routed the ehxuast to the opposite side of the manifolds to the turbo then the rest of the exhaust out the back. He had a smaller turbo on it that gave him more low end power but it was so much power it would slip a brand new clutch, so he went with a bigger turbo that took longer to spool up.

Just some guy with a whole bunch of money, said it had like 450 horsepower. i believed it and it had 30" tires on it

Hey guys,

I am new to the forum. I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 2wd Manual with the AX-15 Tranny and the Dana 33 rear Diff. Not sure what the gearing is though. I run my jeep more as a street jeep I do have mine lowered about 3 inches just to fill in the wheel wells I like the way it looks but there are drawbacks since this is a new field and they dont make lowering kits for the cherokees so i had to ghetto it up for a bit. its going back to stock now till i can afford the money to make it permanent. But as for Turbos, 505performance is a great company i have delt with them before read about there 5.0L stroker turbo combination, I belive they had K n B coated pistons, 5.0l stroker bored .60 over running single turbo setup (injectors at 32lbs i think) and 38 psi on the turbo making 693 HP and 798 ft lbs of torque. I dont know i think jeeps can do alot more then offroad. I also have a 2007 Commander 4x4 which i am trying to make an off road jeep. the website is www.505performance.com
