Door trim question
I've searched through the forums for the answer and no luck. Dumb question, what's the molding called that is half way down on the doors of a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Looks like it would prevent door dings. I need to replace all four doors for my dad's Jeep. I've heard belt molding, but that doesn't bring up what I need to replace.

Don't have a clue, But. . . .
Sorry I don't have a clue as to what they're called but I can tell you after much research and observation they do seem to help protect the door from parking lot hits.
I was planning on taking mine off (1999 XJ Sport) after all it's only tape holding them on and they don't match the body color - Then Janet sezs "but they protect the doors in parking lots".
Hate to say it but she's right, Over the last few weeks I've looked at a lot of XJ's being hit by various idiots and they do protect the doors.
Sorry, I still don't know what the are called.

door moldings are the accepted terminology, however the dealership can give you the real name. They might be able to give you a part number. I have had a terrible experience with the dealership and do not recommend them for anything but you can call them for a part number. They gave me a part number saying that they are discontinued part for my 96 (different style molding) $80, might as well just rhinoline the whole side.

Yep that's what I need. I'll call the dealer tomorrow, and get the bad news. I was hoping for a easy ebay thing. If I take off the molding are there any holes underneath for attachment.

No holes or anything like that, just the foam glue that they put them on with, I just pulled mine off the other day and it's a pain to clean the glue off from the parts where it has dried hard, I think they look better without them on, but that's just me, good luck!

After tearing mine off I used my pressure washer to peel off the vast majority of the body molding tape. You can touch it up and remove anything remaining by using a 3M stripe off wheel.
