Door speaker help!
Door speakers weren't workin when i bought her, so i figured they were blown and i'd just replace them. Well spent the money and time to replace them last night and theres still nothing. Check the ports in the back of the deck and tey were all good. Any ideas for troubleshooting, or anybody with some advice would be greatly appreciated.
well, asside from the low SQ (sound quality) you get with the stockie, replaciong your head unit would be (was) my first move. it worked w/o doing anything but installing it, so the ease of this fix was nice... asside from that, just pull some pannels off and trace the wiring to see if you can find a break or anything. but most likely because BOTH fronts arent working, its the output from the oem deck! id throw my vote towards a pioneer unit. ive got one and i love it- only thing is the rear aux doesnt work? (but its like 3+ years old, too, and the rear aux port was never used untill the other day...) good luck, man!
edit- depending on how into music/SQ you are, dont spend less than like 150-175 on a deck... ive got subs, so i needed a deck with 3 pre outs, most cheaper ones will have only 2 pre outs. other than that, its mostly preference... BUT, i did buy a cheap(er) kenwood deck and the SQ sucked and the bass would ONLY (litterally ONLY) hit in a really high frecuancy! even when i should have dropped, it would either keep it high, or just bottom out and not hit! so idk... make sure its got a return policy

Both my 2001 and my wife's 2000 XJ the driver's door speaker is broke. We've tried swapping speakers and decks. What I ended up doing was fishing a new wire from the door up to the head unit and tapping into the HU harness to get the power to the speakers.
There was something wrong in the wiring somewhere. It was much easier to just run a new speaker wire than to mess with tracking the issue.

Where the wiring runs into the doors, there tends to be problems in a lot of 97-01 (that I know of)
Sometimes you can tell by putting more power on your HU to the front speakers and opening your door half way and wiggling/playying with the rubber accordian style tubing that goes from the body to the door that hides the wiring into the doors.
Easiest solution is just run new wiring to it, which may help sound output when adding aftermarket speakers that would get rid of the real thin factory wiring.

Both my front door speakers had shorts in the wire entering the cab, I spliced in new ones inside the cab, fished them through the rubber tunnel and now my speakers work fine.

I fixed mine about 5 years ago. Speaker wire was broken where it runs through the plastic flex hose between the door and door jamb. Spliced in heavier wire, worked again.
Same thing here.. had to run new wiring for both sides. It was pretty painless and the sound quality is fine... didn't need to buy a thing!
Hey guys, same problem here. 2001, passenger side front speaker isn't working. My question is this; Do I simply cut the wires in the harness and soder them to speaker wire? Also, can anyone give me an exact color for the + and - cables. Everywhere online has purple for one (which I can find) but the color the other (blue and red I think) I do not see.
Any help would be appreciated!

My stock HU didn't have the power to play my pioneer 5.25s well at all. A sony GT-250 Fixed that
$80 with tax BUT only one set of pre-outs. For my one 10" sub it's great, it does what I want it to do.
