So i am still chasing electrical gremmlins in the jeep.
Passenger side door has a broken "door ajar switch" and I figured I would replace that to see if it fixes the drain from interior lights.
Got the part, but it looks like there are 2 connections. The one I pulled had only one and there is only one wire coming out. Wiring diagram seem to show only one wire..... so I pulled the driver side one to see and there are 2 wires.
Part number is the same for both sides so I think this is the right part.
Any insights.... (no need to say that since I pulled the driver side one, nothing is working because I am that lucky
)

passenger side should have three as well, they break off easy with corrosion, i had to re-do mine with a computer pin kit!
this was for a 1998...

Thanks for the insight, i will take a look, but I am not sure that on the 89xj, this is the same switch....
As far as i know, part number is right... i just have one wire coming from passenger door and I am wondering why.
I have seen some replacement parts that have only one prong and are labelled as auto grounding... maybe this is what i need...idk

Just took the switches out of my 89 and cleaned them yesterday. The Drivers side front was 2 prong. Passengers front was one prong, and both back doors where one prong.

Thanks Defiance, this confirms what the wiring diagram shows I guess....
Since they sold the one with 2 prongs and this is supposed to be good for passenger door (as er their catalog) I installed it and everything is working so far.... Did not solve my short/drain on battery but at least it is fixed.

I dont know what the second wire is for on the drivers side, maybe for the buzzer? I touched it to ground and nothing, touched it together with the other wire and nothing either. I dont have my buzzer though, so im not sure if that may be what its for.
The clip was bad, so I just clipped the wire and am using the two prong switch with one wire.

And that, Defiance, is exactly why I like woring/learning on this truck.... if you don't need it and it doesn't work, just cut it off.... i have just finished removing the rear wiper wiring, speakers etc....
I did make the mistake to try to put the passenger door switch in while connected with one wire and leaving the second one empty... well I must not have been awake as the battery was plugged in.... that makes some nice sparks/archs and colors....
Right now, it is working and stable (yes I have decided to remove the word "fixed" from my vocabulary and go for stable.....)

Well I pulled the switch out, un plugged it, cleaned it up a bit as it was pretty corroded looking, and when I stuck it back in, it works now. We'll see if that was the culprit. I'm going to try and do some more troubleshooting later as well.
