Door hinge pin bushings
Hey Folks,
I've done a couple hinge repairs in my career but I'm having trouble with my XJ. The bushings are not tight enough on the pins to prevent excessive movement and door sag.
My 2001 XJ 2 Door, drivers door, was sagging. I found a company on Ebay that made pin kits in the US for my last ZJ which were expensive but worked like a dream. I ordered a set for my drivers door on the XJ. After installing the kit I found event MORE play in the pins (bushing-to-pin when pressed into the bracket mounted to the body) than before. I could feel excessive play by hand even before hanging the door back on. I re-hung the door and sure enough the sag and movement was extreme.
Not knowing what to do next, I ordered a 2 hinge pin kits from Napa to compare the products thinking the bushings may not have been sized properly. I just pulled the door again, pressed out the pins and tried the new bushings. I'm still getting excessive play.
This is really frustrating, its significantly worse than when I started.
Is anyone using oversized bushings to get proper tolerance or have any other solutions?
Thanks!

I had a similar problem and did some searching on the forum. I ended up using some of these. FB46-02. 1/2" O.D. Drilled a hole, dropped them in and the pins fit great. .35 cents a piece + shipping. Been in my '98 for several years with no problems.

My 97-98 parts catalog says the hinges for both are the same (55235368AB). The rear doors take 552356369AB. I can only assume 99-01 are the same.
