Default Door check spring?

My passenger door recently started not "stopping" in increments after I heard some metallic noises in the door. Upon inspection, there was a broken spring stuck on the magnet of the door speaker. I'm guessing that its the spring for the door check. I've read about other door check fixes but most lean towards getting an entirely new part ($50-60). I've looked for a spring replacement to no avail. has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do to fix it?

Had a '97 I picked up as a project a year or so ago and the drivers side was broken. Dealer wanted $80 and it was low priority on the list so I left it broken. Just had to be careful on hills or in a strong wind.

Suppose you could get one from a jy.

Replace the door check. There is no magical fix if the spring is shot.

I grabbed a door check from the junkyard for less than $10 and ordered new pins on Amazon, it worked very well.

I may have to do the same, my drivers door has never stayed open since I've had it, my fiancee said it was the same when she bought it over 2 years ago.

It also places stress on the hinges and can lead to them pulling away from the body since they are welded to a thin piece of steel on the frame. I did not have the door check in mine on the drivers side when I bought and was not paying attention, then the top hinge broke away from the body.

Someone posted on here that you can swap the rear door checks for the front-just need to grind them a little. Haven't tried myself though.

Rear door checks are different than front door checks and they will not work.
