Default Door check arms.

Ever notice how the ones on the front doors always break or wear out but the rear ones seem to last forever?

You go to the junkyard and all the ones for the front doors are missing already?

There's tons of rear door checks there...

Get the assemblies out of the rear doors. Pry the rollers/spring back and remove the arms from the rear door assemblies and put your arms from the front assemblies in their place after cleaning them up. 2 minute job.

Except that the front door check arm hole for the check bracket pin is usually wallered out and making it useless. :-)

Great info.

For me, i just keep em disconnected when they fall out. Driver side is disconnected. Passenger is close to popping out. And i just recently removed the rear driver one. Read a write up where you can have the rear doors open further. Not sure if it works on newer bodies though when i checked mines

Okay, Eeyore.

I went through my collection of good rear check arms and busted front check arms yesterday.

Not one front had an elongated hole. The issue was either the spring broke, the roller fell out, or the metal bracket holding everything together broke.

I wish I had a door check assembly with a wallered out hole.

I was working on a project to bush mine while it was still installed in the door but gave up (for the time being). I just installed a new check bracket and pin and the clicking went away. There's still some movement between the pin and the arm hole, and a slight noise.

Thanks for defining "Wallered out" as "elongated" ! LOL.

Both of the front checks on mine are pooched.

What category does "pooched" fall into?

New door check brackets and new pins may help. Morris4x4 has these parts, so does the dealer.

I recommend the dealer for the pins. The aftermarket pins I got were not to spec and didn't work at all.

Bracket part number 55002361

Pin part number 55012900

When the door checks become difficult and makes popping noises, when removing them to clean and grease does not remedy, I have had good luck with slightly grinding down the hump in door check arm. Has worked good and still holds door open in 2 positions.

That's when you've had to pull the pins on the checks because the noise of opening the door is so loud the neighbours complain!

I smooth the arms out also before reassembly.

Does the arm assembly come out of the door without having to take the door panel off?

No. Unless you can get through the speaker.
Or just carefully lift that corner of the panel.
