Do I need ramps to change the transmission fluid and filter?

In a youtube video, a bunch of fluid came out after loosening the filter. How much fluid would come out of just the pan?

Don't worry about the damn filter and the little bit of fluid from the screen. Just get it done!!
If it's not all pretty and pink after the drain and fill, do another one......

I think the drain bolt is 14mm. Just drain and refill. It takes about 4 quarts. Drive 100 miles and drain again if necessary.

If you want to change ALL the fluid, see my sig, #3.

Don't bother dropping the pan.

I live in the AZ so wet ground is abnormal, but once I put my car up on stamped sheet metal ramps. When I got out to start working the car was almost at normal height. Then I remembered it had rained a few days ago. Softened the ground enough that the ramps pushed down into the dirt. Re did that with some scraps of plywood under the ramps so that couldn't happen again. So in that unusual sense, solid wood ramps are safer. Or only use your ramps on pavement.

Describes the perfect condition in which NOT to use ramps or jackstands.
Always use on solid underground. Period.

Getting killed or mangled by your own car is firmly un-cool.
