Anyone know how to do this or can explain this to me better?

- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
- Set the engine at Top Dead Center (TDC) of the No. 1 cylinder compression stroke.
- Position the slot in the oil pump drive gear as shown.
Fig. 1: Slot in the oil pump gear at 10 o'clock position — 2.5L engine
Fig. 2: Slot in the oil pump gear at 11 o'clock position — 4.0L engine - Locate the alignment holes in the plastic ring and align the correct hole with the mating hole in the distributor housing as shown. Install a locking pin.
Fig. 3: Distributor pin alignment holes — 2.5L and 4.0L engines

I guess I don't ubderstand what your question is. The diagrams are for installing a distributor, the alignment is done to facilite the oil pump shaft lining up with the distributor shaft when installed in the motor.

Put #1 at tdc by putting a rag in #1 sparkplug hole and tap ign until it pops out, then make sure you have the 0 degrees on the mark on balancer.
then put dist in with the rotor pointing at the 5oclock or #1 spark plug wire,do not be concerned with the oil pump at this point if it is a pain, just tap the ign it will fall into place. main thing is you have rotor pointing at #1 wire when it is at tdc. it will start.

Tapping i mean just quickly engage starter and release it,the mark on the balancer is a line accros it that you align the degrees,o being tdc when you are on the comp stroke. Align the rotor with #1 wire or post it does not matter, also is everything plugged back in? did you remove anything from the dist?

the motor must be set at top dead center on the compression stroke
the instruction say to remove the valve cover but you dont need to do that
if you remove the#1 plug and hold your finger over the hole when the air is trying to push your finger out its compression then aline the marks on the pulley

No,it is a very easy process, once you have done it it will be very easy for youlike previous post says you do not need to remove valve cover, that just makes it much harder.
