So here's the deal. Went wheeling today and ended up bringing out a problem with the old renix. It doesn't want to free rev, idle, run at any lower rpm's.

Now, once it's going, it'll roll 4000rpm like nothing. One small lift on the gas pedal will drop the tach to near nothing like somebody cut the wire or something.

It's running rich, smells like a boat. I'm thinking it may be coil or distributor pickup maybe? Anybody got a good guess which way to lean before I toss some parts at it ***** nilly?

 

Sounds like the map sensor.

 

Here's the skinny so far.

I've replaced the IACV, Map, ICM and coil. No change at all. I guess distributor is the next logical step.

 

Well, for anybody interested...

It was the CPS. From everything I read, I figured that there was no possible way that could be the problem. It stared and idled just fine, but wouldn't drive down the street without having a seizure.

Got the new CPS in today and it runs like a champ now.
