Stock is fine. A "performance" distributor cap and rotor will do nothing if you have nothing behind it like MSD coil and distributor.

i did find an MSD multi spark control module but can't find cap and rotor. honestly i can't complain, my XJ gets about 23mpg and has tons of power. but my RC 3" came in the mail along with my new (bling bling) Outlaw II wheels. so i don't wanna drive around on 31's and loose a whole bunch of power. i was planning on doing an msd module, cap and rotor, gut the cat, flowmaster 40, cold air intake, tb spacer, maybe some mustang injectors.

ignition upgrades most definately gibe you more power. it only feelsl ike you have more power because you spent money on it. those ignition upgrades are for modified motors, and these mods help you get the most of those upgrades. an msd ignition is a supporting mod to others, such as a bigger cam, bigger head, and a motor that was built to revv high. it wont make a gutted cat, "cold" air intake, or a header perform any better than they already do.

sorry to burst your bubble. if you want power and 31's consider regearing to 4.10's and do it the right way. and btw 31's and stock gearing isnt that bad at all

My friend, not to keep an argument going, but i have turned a wrench or two. i've had MSD in 2 stock motors before and i've seen gain. and i'm not talking 1/4hp. my econoline with a 5.0 moved up from 15mpg to 18 mpg with an MSD control module, cap and rotor. my 318 in my dodge dakota shaved off almost a whole second on 0-60 with msd module, cap rotor, cai, headers and flowmaster 40.
i just don't know about jeep 4.0. never owned one. i usually stick with v8's.

it went from 18 seconds to 17 seconds? just joshin.

well thats good that you have seen some sort of gain in your travels, true or not, but to be realistic, spend your money on something better. the amount of money you spend on a spark box will take you years to recoup in saved fuel. and by the sounds of things your not out for mileage, so why dont you save up and buy a supercharger? there was a good article on putting a supercharger on an xj in pedersens 4wd about a year ago.

boost breaks parts and hearts. i'm more into bolt-on test and tune. just don't like to throw the cash down the drain. i ask to get a general opinion.
