Default Distributor broke, replaced, now ticking?!?!?

Short version of the story....changed oil pump a couple months ago while doing some other work, found one of the 2 mounting holes on the distributor was busted.....limping along until I could fix it.
Yesterday morning, started sputtering, wouldn't downshift. Pulled it off the Hwy, tried restarting a couple times, but would die & ended up towing it home. The distributor had come loose & was almost out.
Replaced distributor today, started & ran fine the first time. Went to back it out of the garage & now there is a tick.....valve damage?

Was there new cam pickup sensor put in at the same time? the flat plastic disk with a small metal sensor that fits in under the distributor cap/rotor? Those often tick when first installed, and wear in after a few hours/days. Even if the cam sensor was re-used, a new distributor might be contacting the metal pick-up and take a little time to wear in. When I replaced my sensor, it settled down within 1-2 days.
