Default Disconnected a/c wire

This is my first post on here and will probably make me sound like an idiot but I found this wire that looks like it was cut and was wondering if it needs to be connected to anything. I assume its a ground wire since it's connected to the case of the a/c compressor but any help would be greatly appreciated.

i dont have the old style ac compressor on mine but i found this picture. and judging from it im going to say yes you need it and it is probably a ground but you can probably find a cheesy wiring diagram somewhere.

Here's a diagram of the AC clutch circuit. Note the diode in the circuit.


Below this is a pic showing the diode in a '99 clutch wiring...if it helps.
