Default Dipstick tube broke, removal.....help!!!

Okay, long story short, I broke the dipstick tube off at the base, right where it goes into the block. How screwed am I?? I have another bad block with a tube in it. Should I forget about that one and buy a new one?? And the broke part still in the block. I see in my old block that the tube is like 5 inches long. How the heck am I going to get that out?? Will I have to drop the oil pan to get it out??

1990, 4.0

Thanks in advance

I have been spraying both tubes with PB blast. Still nothing will budge. I can grab the piece that's broken in the block but its not moving at all. I'm going to let the PB soak for a few more hours. Till then any one have any ideas??

It's just pressed in there, can you tap some threads and screw a bolt in it? Once the bolt bottoms out it should spin the tube loose.

Tapping it will be your best bet in this situation . It really shouldn't be in to tight but maybe over time its gottin tight . Get a tap and tap as far down as possible and get a good size bolt so you have lots of grabbing area and thread her down the pipe and once it gets tight you should be able to pull her right out.... also I have a OEM dip stick off of a 89 that will work if you need one.... pm me if your interested

An easy out might work, but use the biggest one that will fit.

Also get a good easy out. The cheap ones break off, then you cant drill it out.

chisel two sides in and then take vise grips, twist and pull and it will come out.

This is a first, never heard of breaking the tube, I have broken dip sticks a lot, but never a tube. please, we would love to hear the long story.

I finally got it out!!! Found a bolt the was just big enough to bite in to the tube. But still could not pull it out. So I decide to put a chain on the bolt and I had pipe and pushed the pipe up and pop. It came out. So tapping the tube would work great. Oh and a slide hammer would have a lot of help.

The long story, okay this is my 90 renix, and decided to do the ground refresh/upgrade. And the stud that hold the dipstick and all the ground I took it out. I went to clean the block but the tube bracket was in the way. I then went to bend the bracket out of the way JUST A LITTLE and snap the tube broke. Oh well lesson learned. Don't move dipstick, and if I do know how to remove it.

I can't believe it was that hard to get out. I used vise grips and the chain to pry it out. It still wouldn't come out. When I finally found a bolt that would work and screwed it in and saw the tube turn. I thought yes it will come out. I pulled that thing till I was blue in the face. Then use the chain and bar and then it popped out.

And no I'm not a little Guy!!! I'm 6'4" and over 200 pounds. Ha.
