So I thought I'd wire some fog lights...easy enough. But I understand that in order to pass VA state inspection, they must cut off when high beams cut on. (Funny, this doesn't happen on my wife's 07 Compass w/OEM fog lights, but she passes just fine). Anyways, I worked up the wiring schematic (lights, relay, switch), essentially as it's laid out in the Haynes Manual wiring diagram. In that diagram, they show the fog light relay coming from the "headlamp dimmer switch," which is drawn separate from the "headlamp switch," and the "multifunction switch." My question -- where IS the headlamp DIMMER switch? On my 95, the high beams are actuated by the multifunction switch, but in the steering column, it appears to be one common mechanism. Is there a separate mechanism, presumably somewhere under the dash, between the push/pull headlight switch, and the MFS? (From the wiring diagram, I see that I'm looking to tap a light green wire...there are two coming out of the harness from the MFS). Any help would be appreciated.
The high/low beam switch is part of the multifunction switch. Dimmer/turn signals.
The simple way to do this is by adding one more relay that closes when the high-beams have power. One coil terminal to ground, the other tapped into the power wire to one of the high beam bulbs.
Run the fog light control through the normally closed relay contacts. When you turn the high beams on those normally closed contacts open and disconnect the fog lights.
That's basically what the factory did except in some years they ground the relay through the high-beam bulb, which drops out when the high beams have power.

Thanks Radi, I've wired up everything, and after several iterations (fog lights blinking when turn signal on, fog light switch turning on windshield wipers, etc), I've gotten to this point: Foglights work with switch, but don't turn off when highbeams are cut on. I think I'm tapping the wrong wire for the high beams, but unsure. Haynes calls for 1 light green and 1 white wire going to headlight. Well, there is no white wire that I can find. Here's the setup:
Relay:
85 - highbeams (questioning this one)
86 - switch
87 - lights
30 - battery.
Switch:
-12v from acc.
-relay (86)
-Ground
Dunno if I'm overlooking a problem with how I have the relay set up, but, seriously can't find a white wire going to headlight??
